· Strikeforce Announces December Event; Lindland, Jacare, King Mo To Compete
San Jose based promotion Strikeforce has penciled in December 19 for their followup event to this coming Saturday's card on CBS. The December event will air live on Showtime.
Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker confirmed with MMA Junkie and announced that Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal will face a yet to be determined opponent and recent acquisitions Matt "The Law" Lindland and Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza would face each other in a middleweight match up.
The announced middleweight match up between Lindland (21-6) and Souza (10-2) could prove pivotal in the future of Strikeforce's middleweight division. With a middleweight title bout scheduled for the CBS card on Saturday, this contest could provide the first challenger to the newly crowned champion.
Jacare most recently competed at Dream 9 in May. His bout with Jason Miller was ruled a no contest after an accidental kick from Miller opened up a cut that left him unable to continue. A rematch between Miller and Souza was later discussed but has yet to happen.
Lindland was on the losing end in his last contest with now UFC middleweight Vitor Belfort at Afflicion: Day of Reckoning which he lost by knockout in the first round.
A decorated wrestler, Lindland will look to get back on the winning track against Souza. A win against Souza would put him into the mix within Strikeforce's middleweight division.
Muhammad "King Mo" Lawal (5-0), who has fought at heavyweight and light heavyweight in his career, will be fighting in front of U.S. audiences for just the second time in his career. Spending most of his time in Japan, Lawal made his U.S. debut in August for M-1 Global's Breakthrough event. He would defeat Mark Kerr in less than one minute. He also holds a victory in his professional debut against Travis Wiuff.
