· WEC Signs Korean Standout Chan Sung Jung
With Yoshihiro Akiyama and Dong Hyun Kim already under the Zuffa banner, the UFC’s sister promotion now has their own key into the South Korean market. Featherweight standout Chan Sung Jung has signed a six-fight deal with the WEC.
The 22-year-old Jung (10-1) has competed in promotions such as Sengoku, Deep, and Pancrase. He is best known for his contentious decision loss to eventual champion Masanori Kanehara in the semifinals of Sengoku’s featherweight tournament last May. He has rebounded from the loss with a submission win against Matt Jaggers at "Sengoku 9." Jung also owns a win over UFC veteran and Sengoku featherweight standout Michihiro Omigawa.
According to Jun Choi, the lead agent for Korean Top Team, Jung’s debut may come as soon as the organization's pay-per-view debut on April 24, WEC 48. The card is co-headlined by a clash of featherweight titans Jose Aldo and Urijah Faber, and a rematch of last year’s "Fight of the Year" between Benson Henderson and Donald Cerrone for the lightweight championship. While nothing has been confirmed, it is rumored that Jung’s debut will come against Cub Swanson.
