· Rothwell And Sinosic Out Of “UFC 110: Nogueira vs. Velasquez”
The UFC has once again suffered losses in the form of injury and illness on the eve of UFC 110. Both Ben Rothwell and Elvis Sinosic have been forced off the card a mere 24 hours before the event.
Ben Rothwell, set to battle heavyweight legend Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic, has dropped off of the card due to an undisclosed illness. The Miletich-trained fighter and former International Fight League standout made his Octagon debut in a loss Cain Velasquez at UFC 104 and would have been looking for his first win in the promotion. The UFC scrambled to find a replacement and were turned down by both Randy Couture and Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson, according to a report from Fighters Only.
Replacing Rothwell is Australian Anthony Perosh (10-5), a training partner of Elvis Sinosic. Perosh is coming off a TKO victory over Kym Robinson in December. This is his third time fighting in the UFC as he looks to take victory over the Pride veteran.
Cro Cop comes into this bout after receiving stitches on a cut over his right eye which was opened while sparring. Determined to erase the memory of the one-sided thrashing he received at the hands of Junior Dos Santos, Filipovic has refused to back out of the card.
Elvis Sinosic, who has been inactive since December of 2007, was set to rematch Chris Haseman but has been forced off of the card due to shoulder injury. The promotion was left with no choice but to scrap the bout entirely.
